It's your Chapter. You vote for its Board members and Officers. When you attend our events, you help support our Scholarship Fund. Perhaps you have ideas for fund raising, or want to meet the people who serve on your Board, or have questions about our chapter. Maybe you are thinking of joining the Board, volunteering as a committee member, or helping with an event. All SNC members are welcome to attend as a guest. Please let us know if you're coming by emailing to secretary.ccnysn@xadar.com.
Board meetings are preferably on the second Sunday of the month except for July and August, when there are no meetings. The Library schedules meeting rooms months in advance for many organizations, so if our preferred date is not available, we must choose a different day. When we are preempted, we try to schedule a Sunday afternoon a week earlier or later.
If snacks are permitted, you may bring light snacks, or soft drinks to share. Because many board members are on restricted diets (reduced sugar, salt, fats, calories, carbs, and/or cholesterol), please consider healthier options. Snacks, when permitted, are voluntary, never required.
A typical agenda follows:
Reading and adoption of the minutes of the last meeting (Secretary)
Treasurer's report (Treasurer)
Webmaster's report (Webmaster)
Reports from coordinators of various events (Event Coordinators)
Committee reports (Committee chairs)
Old business (Board members)
New business (Board members).
Any member of the Southern Nevada Chapter; i.e., members of the CCNY Alumni Association who live in Nevada. Non-members may attend with permission of the Chapter President. A Board member may host a guest if there is sufficient reason. All non-Board attendees and hosts should make their presence known to the Chair (usually the President) when the meeting comes to order.
The President usually chairs Board meetings. If the President is unable to preside, a line of succession follows (e.g., Vice President, etc.)
Roberts Rules of Order (RRO) is the definitive authority at Board meetings. The Board has appointed one of its members to be the Parliamentarian. The Parliamentarian interprets RRO much like the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution. For simplicity, the meeting loosely follows RRO. However, if any Board member insists, RRO will be strictly invoked.
The Board of Directors gets its authority from the By-laws. A copy of the By-laws can be obtained on the Chapter's website. The Alumni Association of CCNY (CCNY AA) is the definitive authority that approves our Chapter By-laws and thereby grants us license to use it's authority, logos, and all privileges and responsibilities derived therefrom. Our Chapter is part of the CCNY AA and derives its legal standing, including its non profit (503c) tax classification, therefrom.
